Brochure and Magazine Print
Why print is still important in our digital world
There are many misconceptions that print is dead as so many of us become more and more dependent on social media and online resources to gain information. However, it was also said that the radio would die as a result of the invention of TV and that traditional paperback books would become obsolete at the hands of e-books. None of this has happened; radio and paperbacks are still thriving. In fact, surprisingly paperback sales have been recorded as rising whilst demand for ebooks is actually falling, so we can see that some of these technological breakthroughs are sometimes temporary trends or fads, which once tried are pushed to one side in favour of traditional sources. At Mustang we are involved in marketing in both digital and print formats, and we find that the demand for print is still high.
People like the physical experience of traditional print, with the young using printed books as a respite from online activity and devices. The Guardian reported; “Nielsen survey finds UK ebook sales declined by 4% in 2016, the second consecutive year digital has shrunk … new figures reveal that ebook sales are falling while sales of paper books are growing – and the shift is being driven by younger generations.” So the idea that the young favour digital seems to be a misconception, but what does this mean for printed materials in corporate or marketing forums?
Print is here to stay
The general consensus across the industry is that print is here to stay. We can say that on two levels. Firstly it continues to be a valuable marketing resource for promoting business activity whether you are in the service or product sector and secondly because it physically lasts longer than online promotions. Whilst digital and online marketing activity provide a showcase and ‘shop window’ for products and services, helping to raise awareness of your offering, print will sit on a potential customer’s desk for days, weeks or even months. Online images can disappear with just one click. There is fierce competition online for attention, which can sometimes make it challenging to attract the target customers as they can easily be distracted elsewhere by following other links or stories. Mustang design and print high-quality marketing material including brochures, leaflets, catalogues, prospectuses, folders and corporate reports to present your organisation at its best, making you stand out from the crowd. The benefits of marketing brochures, corporate overviews, catalogues and leaflets in print
Online and digital marketing is clearly a growing and popular trend across multiple industries both in business to business and consumer-led markets. However this does not mean the print it now obsolete; the two can complement each other, so let’s look at the benefits of print:
- it is easier to target specific audiences in print with a personal message
- some people do not go online so the only way to reach them is through print
- it is tactile – reading a brochure in print engages more of our senses so creates a deeper experience – the thickness of the paper, the finish of the cover, the quality of the print etc
- polished and professional print helps support sales, plus you don’t have to wait for it to download
- greater potential to communicate the message for longer
- it can be passed on to others
- you don’t need wifi or 4G or a device to read it
- print creates trust and ultimately brand loyalty
- compiling a brochure creates resources which can also be used digitally online
